Just finish watching the first season of MediuM, a TV series from CBS aired in 2005. It is about Allison DuBois, a mother of three having a psychic power to communicate with the dead, mostly in her dream. I think it is a good show and it have some insights or views on human conditions but I haven't put much reflection on it so I couldn't tell you more.
As the title suggested, I find some resemblance between Medium and Millennium, a TV show from the Fox network aired from 1996 to 1999 (3 seasons). In the opening theme of Medium, I noticed that the two "M" in the word "MEDIUM" are little bit bigger. While in Millennium, both "M" are in capital letter and the rest are not, it signify the second millennium we are having as indicated by Chris Carter, the producer of the show. I don't know whether the title "MediuM" signify something but it is what make me start comparing these two shows.
1. Bird Chirping v.s. thunderclap
I watch both dramas with closed caption. The most frequent background sound effect is [bird chirping] in Medium and [thunderclap] in Millennium. Thunderclap in Millennium is understandable, Chris Carter wants to make a TV series to have the mood of "Seven" the motion picture, but bird chirping? Every episode of Medium starts with a (bad) dream of Allison DuBois, most of the time she wake up in the middle of the night, but when she wake up again in the morning, there is bird chriping, not always but often enough to be noticed. Bird chriping in the morning usually signify a good day, it makes a great contrast with the bad dream Allison DuBois has have the night before. She has a wondeful family with three beautiful kids and a loving husband, in contrast, she has bad dreams almost every night, it just comes to her and she can do nothing about it. She suffers from her dreams.
(I hope I can finish it someday... May 15 2007)
